Balance

Some people say we are made up of Body, Soul and Spirit.
Others say we are made up of Emotional, Mental and Physical sides.
I've even heard a reference to "Heart, Soul and Mind".
So which is it? And what do all these references mean?
Well, I think they are all combined!

For those who can't see the image below, I will describe it in words.
I subscribe to the concept that there are FOUR sides to us; a three sided equilateral triangle, where each side must be balanced for the Spirit in us to function properly.

Side 1.
First, the Physical, the Body, the Flesh; the part of us we can experience with the five senses. This side of us relates to our health, exercise and diet. There are so many people who have money, possessions, positions, and are so-called 'successes', yet have no health to enjoy their achievements. These people have neglected their body, and end up with dis-eases caused by consuming too many sugars and processed foods, and not taking enough exercise. A well looked after body normally denotes a healthy, balanced, self-confident individual. It is not uncommon to find people who are healthy and active well over 100 years of age, partly because of their diet.

Side 2.
Then there is the Emotional side. The part of us which is sensitive and vulnerable. The Heart element of us, our feelings, Love. It is here  where our intuition operates, that mystical part of us that can pick up other people's vibrations, sense the mood in a room, see/feel the aura around someone. Our gut reaction. A hunch. Our sixth-sense.
It is also here where we harbour resentments and bitterness, again causing dis-ease, which may manifest itself in the physical ie: headaches, heartaches, neck aches, back aches, tumours, ulcers etc.
To live longer and remain healthy, forgive more, love more, release things more, spend less time with negative and complaining people, focus on positive, uplifting and inspiring things.

Side 3.
The Mental side of us. The Brain. The intellect. Our thoughts. The things we dwell on. The memories we choose to treasure or let go.
This is important to cultivate because without the Mind, the body is a shell. In many schools of thought, the Mind is considered a wild animal, which needs to be reined in, disciplined, trained, controlled.
Our mental faculties need exercising as much as our bodies. There are many people who retire at 60 odd, stop using their mind, and rapidly deteriorate into a depressed vegetable state.  No.  Keep reading. Keep learning. Keep stretching. Keep enquiring. Keep researching. Keep playing board games, doing puzzles. Join clubs and groups. Communicate with people regularly. Spend occasional time with people younger than you. Stay open minded about new ideas.  Keep young!

Side 4.
Finally, when all sides of the equilateral triangle are in balance, inside it is the Spirit. The Soul. That Eternal part of us that knows we are born for more than just work, eat and sleep. The everlasting side of us that is untouchable, yet lives on after we die.
The Spirit which unites us in purpose. The Soul which connects us at such a deep level, we cannot describe it adequately. Profound.
When the triangle is out-of-balance, the Spirit in us is quenched. You've hear the expression 'Soul-less eyes', where someone is dead inside. They have no vision of their future.
However, when our lives are in balance, our Spirit sings within us, our Soul leaps for joy, and we are at peace inside.
There is a deep sense well-being, and an Eternal sense of Purpose.
An internal knowing that we should let go of things, detach, release, free ourselves fly like the Wind, as we were meant to.

Beautiful
